Andrew K. Shotwell, a native of Tawas City, Michigan, graduated the University of Michigan in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Mr. Shotwell received his Juris Doctorate cum laude from the Syracuse University College of Law in Syracuse, New York in 2001.
Mr. Shotwell’s areas of practice include estate planning, probate, elder law, business, commercial, intellectual property and civil litigation.
Mr. Shotwell is admitted to practice law in all state courts and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association. Mr. Shotwell is a member of the State Bar of Michigan Probate and Estate Planning Section, as well as the Elder Law Section, and Intellectual Property Section. He has also received a Certificate of Completion in the areas of probate and estate planning issued by the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Probate and Estate Planning Sections of the State Bar of Michigan. He has spoken on multiple occasions for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education on topics concerning estate planning and probate administration. Mr. Shotwell is a past-president of the Friends of the Traverse Area District Library and volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan. Mr. Shotwell is an active member of the Traverse Bay Sunrise Rotary Club, having served on its Board of Directors from 2008-2011. Currently, he is on the Board of Directors of the City Opera House, and serves leadership positions within that organization.
Mr. Shotwell currently resides in Grand Traverse County with his wife Sarah and their daughters, Amelia, Ava and Vivian. He participates as a coach of his daughters’ soccer, cross country, track and basketball teams at Eastern Elementary and East Middle School. He also serves on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer of the Traverse City Central Choir Parent Organization.
